A General Practice Law Office specializing in:
|
| Background and Philosophy |
| Mr. Shek established the office in 1989 after several years spent as an associate and apprentice with Cargill, Masterman & Culbert of Boston and an interim two year period spent as in-house counsel to a U.S. Virgin Island real estate development firm. Since 1989 John has maintained the modest size and budget of the office with the objective of handling the most complicated or the simplest matters in a cost effective manner, and providing the client with the benefit of so-called "big case" experience at fee rates substantially less than big firm fee structures. |

Mr. Shek's hourly rate is $175 per hour for regular billable time,
and $200 per hour for time on trial. All other attorneys working
with the Office are billed at rates of $75 to $150 per hour,
depending on experience, and paralegals and law clerks are billed at
the rate of $25 per hour.
As a matter of ordinary course in any case the Office provides monthly detailed billing statements which give a specific description of the activity billed, the attorney providing the services, the date the services were performed, and the amount of time billed. The Office also provides budgets and status reports on cases for clients that wish to examine factors such as progress on a case, assignment of attorneys and staff members working on a case, estimation of success, cumulative fees and/or costs, projected future fees, and other special issues which the client may wish to analyze. As an active member of the Boston Bar Association's Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility Mr. Shek places an absolute premium on the quality of the attorney client relationship between the Office and each of its clients; the Office's informative billing and other administrative procedures are followed to preserve the integrity of that relationship. In sum, the Office stresses a combination of excellence of work product and practicality of obtaining results in both hard cases and those which deserve a cost efficiency analysis. We are experienced civil trial and appellate lawyers in both Massachusetts state and federal courts, with a broad Eastern Massachusetts practice. John R. Shek, Esq. is an Active Member of Boston Bar Association Ethics Committee.
